LOOKING FOR A WIN-WIN SITUATION This past weekend marks the largest contract signing in Major League Baseball history. On the 12th of February 2000, Ken Griffey Jr. (formerly of the Seattle Mariners), signed a nine-year $116.5 million contract with his hometown Cincinnati Reds. The cityââ¬â¢s fans were ecstatic to bring Griffey back, and considering he turned down an eight-year $148 million deal to re-sign with Seattle, they feel that the acquisition was a real bargain. It really is amazing when a man can make $12.94 million a year, simply for playing the game of baseball and millions upon millions of people are calling it a bargain. Salaries in sports are incredibly sensitive and controversial issues. There are many die-hard fans that believe high-profile athletes are worth each and every cent their contract gives them, however most people believe otherwise; I am one of them. What exactly is it that athletes do that makes them deserving of such high salaries? The real issue at hand here, is that the more money athletes are making, the more fans are going to have to pay to see them in person. Is there really a win-win situation here? As entertainers, athletes are paid for fan satisfaction. The more fans that want to see an athlete perform, the more the athlete is paid. In fact, most athletes, even those who make millions of dollars for each flubbed fly ball, dropped pass, and missed free throw, feel they probably deserve even higher salaries; the reason being that theyââ¬â¢re still in demand. While certain athletes may never bring a championship ring to their team, or even bring home a winning season, those athletes will always pack the stands. Fans in the stands translate into ticket sales. Ticket sales can potentially lead to national television broadcasts. Inevitably, the formula of ticket sales plus national television broadcasts leads to massive revenue, and this is how owners and organizations can afford to pay players like Michael Jordan $25 Million for his retiring season alone. However, how does society (as a whole) benefit from these over-inflated salaries? In short, it doesnââ¬â¢t. It is a delicate and confusing situation. If the fans will pay for everything from the hats to the T-shirts, to the tickets to the hot dogs, the teams will generate more money. However, if that happens, come contract time athletes will demand for more money. If the athlete demands more money, the cost of tickets and memorabilia will go up.

When I was 22 years old, I had a best friend who was gay and Christian. Occasionally, he would ask me to go to church with him but I never would. I always turned him down thinking it would be a waste of time to go to his church since you cannot be gay and Christian. One day, after having invited me several times and getting the same rejection, he directly asked me if it was because of his sexual orientation. I contemplated whether I should tell him the truth or lie. I told him I was not comfortable going to a church that would accept a practicing homosexual. To me the Bible is clear that this is an abomination and if a church not only accepted such a relationship but also condoned the behavior, then I did not want to attend. He thenâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The first revelation received was that this was my story and I, too, had a heart of stone when it came to this topic; however, God was about to give me a heart of flesh. In order to do that, I had to let go of everything that I thought I knew. I had no idea that some of the Hebrew words used to condemn homosexuality were the same words to condemn temple prostitution or that the Greek word used in 1 Corinthians could also mean a type of clothing. I struggled as I did not want to let go of my preconceived notions of what was right and what was wrong. I had to focus deeply on my prayer life to make sure that I was staying exactly where God wanted me since this was all new to me. Once I was able to let go of the thinking I previously had, God allowed a new way of thinking to enter my mind. I was able to see for myself what He intended me to know. Seeing something different from what you had originally thought it was is an eye-opening experience. I can remember sitting in my prayer room contemplating and meditating on the scriptures when a sense of peace came over me. It was as if I was learning exactly what I supposed to learn all along. In many ways, the experiences of immigrants in 19th century America were similar. They were outsiders to the dominant American culture, and left their country in search of freedom and liberty. However, through careful study of Greek, German and Chinese individualââ¬â¢s oral histories, we can see that immigrantsââ¬â¢ experiences varied based on their homeland. The discrepancies in their experiences become most apparent when examining the differences in the immigrantââ¬â¢s treatment upon arrival to America, occupations and education, as well as the assimilation process once in America. In this essay, I will refer to the oral autobiographies of Maria Detsios Spano from Greece, Stefan Weissing and Theresia Brinkhaus Weissing from Germany, and Edward Hong from China. In the 760s he made a large range of single and group portraits of horses, sometimes with hounds. He often painted horses with their grooms. He also continued to accept commissions for portraits and group portraits of people. George Stubbs also painted more exotic animals, including lions, tigers, giraffes, monkeys, and rhinoceroses.
